If you don't want your puppy chewing up your shoes, keep your shoes out of his reach, and give him something appropriate to chew on. If he has a propensity to get into the trash, put it in a cupboard or empty it every morning before you leave the house.
If you eliminate opportunities for misbehavior, you set your poodle up for success. You don't spend your time being frustrated by his behavior, and he doesn't suffer your frustration. It's a win-win situation.

Some people advocate preventing scavenging by booby-trapping the trash or putting electrically charged mats on the counter. This can work, but why introduce this punishment into your poodle's life? You can manage the situation by simply not allowing her to find a tasty something that rewards her for her behavior.
