Henry Morgan has been called a buccaneer, a privateer, and a pirate, and his story shows that he was at various times all three. A brilliant strategist, Morgan was, without a doubt, an intelligent, courageous, and resourceful man, capable of pulling off great military feats. Among his fellow buccaneers, he was known as the “greatest of the Brethren of the Coast,” but he was also known for his cruelty, as his forces unmercifully tortured prisoners, both male and female.
