Evaluation and Significance

Contemporary ethics have added greatly to the history of ethical thinking in at least two ways. First, since ethics in the last 100 years have been a part of the analytic tradition discussed in Chapter 20, there has been increased attention to the meaning of ethical terms such as fairness, justice, goodness, and so on. In addition, there has been a boon period for applied ethics since the latter part of the twentieth century. Legal ethics, medical ethics, the ethics of sports, the philosophy of warfare, and medical ethics have grown up in response to social concerns.
