Trade Shows and Conferences

Trade shows and conferences are a great place to get your name in front of people in face-to-face meetings. They offer an opportunity to network in a cost-effective arena. You may choose to attend these events as a participant, or you could rent space as a vendor and set up a booth. Regardless of what event you attend and how you participate, make sure you arrive prepared to respond to any and all inquiries about your products and services.

Maximize Your Effectiveness

Make the best use of your time by attending events that are relevant to your business and will be attended by people who will be interested in what you do. This can mean many things. You may choose to participate in health fairs, business networking conferences, continuing education seminars; the list is endless. When you meet a promising prospect, request a business card. That way you will be able to contact them after the event and add them to your mailing list. Be conscientious about following up with them in a timely fashion. Lack of follow up or tardiness in following up can result in loss of business.

ssential

Remember that the people you speak to at these events will have also been approached by countless others trying to sell their services. Find a way to distinguish yourself from the crowd and reestablish contact as soon as possible so you stay at the forefront of their minds.

Be Prepared

If you are going to spend your valuable time at these events, you will want to make the most of it. Before you go, practice what you plan to say. You will be speaking to many people, but for short periods of time, so keep it concise. Bring your press kit and any samples of your products you have. Anything you can give people to take with them will help keep your name in their minds. Do remember, however, that you are networking and networking is not sales. Try to focus equally on how you can help others and encourage reciprocal relationships.
