Drawbacks to Corporate Training
As with anything in life, there are certain drawbacks to dealing with corporate America. Budgets are always an issue with companies. Be aware that if the company is paying for your services and there are budget cuts, your programs will likely be cut back or eliminated. Your services are considered a privilege, not a necessity, and are therefore expendable. On the other hand, if the employees are paying for your services, then you're more insulated against budget cuts.
Preventing Boredom
Over time, people can lose interest in any workout program. Your job is to keep them interested and motivated. Developing new program ideas is essential to the success of your corporate fitness program. This is especially important if the company you're working with does not have its own fitness center. If you're using your own equipment and running specific programs throughout the day, then the company is depending on you. Constantly creating new programs requires a great deal of effort and can at times be frustrating. You must perform a balancing act of keeping it simple yet interesting.
Question
What is a group exercise instructor?
A group exercise instructor is an individual who is certified to teach classes such as aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, Pilates, etc. As with personal training, there are many certifying organizations, and it is important to have or hire someone with a reputable certification.
Interacting with Business People
Always remember that your clients in the corporate setting are at work. They may not feel as comfortable and relaxed as they might in a health club. If they're doing a lunchtime program, they may not want to sweat too much because they have to get back to work, so you have to consider this in your program design. You are also under time constraints because they will need to get back to work.
You are in a corporate setting, so behaving in a professional manner is of the utmost importance. Corporate rules and etiquette apply. Watch what you say and how you say it, always remembering where you are.
It May Not Last
Providing corporate fitness programs is a great way to expand your business and increase your overall income. However, the duration of these programs may at times be out of your control. The company paying for your services could be negatively impacted by the economy, and no longer able to afford to keep you. Management could change, and the new people may not want a corporate fitness program. There are many factors that may influence the longevity of your programs. Doing your research ahead of time may help decrease the risk of a failed program, but nothing is guaranteed.
