The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is legislation that provides for special education for children with disabilities. Originally it was written in 1997 and reauthorized in 2004. With the reauthorization came some changes in the identification of children with special needs, delivery of services, qualification of special education teachers, and evaluation guidelines.
