If you think of this book as a tool kit for helping your child manage her OCD, this chapter adds some fine-tuning to the standard treatment — CBT and ERP therapy with or without medication — and some treatment alternatives when standard approaches are not possible or viable. In cases of severe childhood OCD, or when a family lives too far from an outpatient OCD treatment provider, intensive inpatient treatment is one such option. Group therapy, including group ERP, has been effective for many older children and teens and is gaining increasing popularity. Mindfulness training and neurofeedback for OCD symptom management are two other practices being employed by mental healthcare providers.
