Taming the Homework Dragon

Homework can often become a family battleground, with your child's efforts to complete even routine assignments regularly leading to hours of frustration that invariably end in tears or tantrums. When you try to help your child, you may find that you simply end up arguing, resorting to threats and punishment out of your own frustration. Home life is disrupted as your child's homework demands keep him up well past his expected bedtime, and take away time that you can relax with your spouse and your other children.

There is only one solution: Don't let homework manage you. You need to set limits and stick to them, both with your child and with the teacher. The purpose of homework is to help your child learn; if it is not fulfilling that purpose, then it simply is not worth the stress that it can cause.
