While most children and teens who suffer from depression do not need inpatient treatment, there are times when their symptoms are out of control and cannot be managed by the more traditional methods of therapy and medication. When a child presents a danger to others or herself, or when she is simply unable to function at all on a daily basis, treatment that takes her out of her environment and keeps her safe usually provides relief and improvement.
