The world of asthma medications is a constantly evolving — with new medications and new ways to control asthma symptoms frequently reported. Several years ago, asthma was thought of as an episodic disease that only needed treatment when symptoms flared up. Now research has revealed that it is a chronic inflammatory disease that needs treatment on a daily basis to control symptoms and prevent future problems, in all but the mildest levels of the disease. But while medical science has made leaps forward, children still appear caught in an old dilemma: remembering to take their medications as prescribed, even if they feel fine — and not just when their symptoms flare up.
