Vacation Anxieties

In order to soothe any additional anxieties your child may experience about vacationing, it will be important to make yourself available to any questions she may have about the process. To avoid repeating yourself, request that your child write or type the questions in advance so that you may respond to them in writing. That way, the questions and answers can become the property of your child. If she repeats a question you know you've answered, simply refer her to the original paper if the answer hasn't changed. Your child will feel most at ease if there is a timetable or schedule of activities while away. Your child may wonder if Internet access will be available where you'll be, or if she may bring something to help her feel comfortable and that she associates with home, such as a favorite book, music CD, or object related to her passion. (Agreeing to the latter will go a long way, as will be further explained in Chapter 17.)
