Although medications for treating childhood ADHD have proven to be very successful in reducing symptoms, they can't teach new skills or improve the organizational and interpersonal challenges that typically accompany the disorder. Talk therapy takes many forms but always involves talking with a trained therapist. Depending on the specific type of talk therapy, your child or teen will learn about the neurobiological natures of the disorder, stop blaming herself, and develop new tools and strategies for coping with everyday symptoms at school, at home, and with friends.
