Many people base their understanding of the American legal system on what they learned in a high school government or civics class. Others rely on newspaper summaries of legal events. Few think about what the law is or where it comes from. For the paralegal, however, these are daily exercises — using an understanding of the sources and types of law to assist clients with legal problems.
