The array of courts in the American judicial system can be bewildering. There are trial courts and appellate courts at the federal level and at the state level. Each jurisdiction has specialty courts. Each court serves a different function. The opinions of some courts are critical to solving a client's problem; other pronouncements are safely ignored. A well-educated paralegal must know the role of each of these courts and how each can affect the outcome of a client's legal problem.
