Major Life Changes
Your life changes as each new stage of it unfolds — and nowhere is sudden or major life change more apparent than on the palm of your hand. Most commonly, change is recorded on your hands in the form of specific markings such as breaks; islands; crosses; or weak, indifferent lines.
Breaks in any major (or even minor) lines almost always represent a change of path — a disruption or redirection of energy. They can be either negative or positive, depending on the lines immediately following and the direction in which they point. A break that points inward (toward the thumb) means a new enterprise or business interest; a break pointing upward (toward the fingers) represents spiritual epiphany; a break pointing outward (toward the percussion) means a sudden adventure in your life; a break pointing downward (toward the wrist) means a total change in lifestyle may be in the works.
If you have a strong, deep life line, you can likely cope with nearly every challenge life may bring. Conversely, a weak or broken life line can point to low vitality, or coping skills that require the help of another person.
But what about other major life changes that can be depicted on the palms of your hands? How — and where — do they show up? Almost always, big changes (such as divorce, illness, career change, or spousal loss) show up on the fate line.
Divorce is most commonly represented by a major break in the heart line.
Major illness turns up on the life line as a weak segment to the entire line — if you see this mark, check the time line of the hand to see when you may expect the illness to set in (see Chapter 11).
A big career change is typically noted by a break on the head line followed by a branch that veers off the broken line in a downward position.
Spousal loss can be signaled on the hand by a cross over the heart line in the area past the Saturn finger and moving toward the Mercury finger. Such loss can also be denoted by a severe break in the fate line about midway through.
Loss of a child can be seen as a faint line on the side of the hand, just above the head line on the mount of Mercury.
Money loss is most easily identified on the hand by the thumb that is curved outward, because it typically represents a person who is generous to a fault, and who succumbs to nearly every hard-luck story she hears. Whether they recognize it through palmistry or not, charlatans can literally spot these generous types from a mile away.
A major move is indicated as a secondary line after a break on the fate or life line. The longer this broken line, the farther away from your current home you are likely to move.
A faint or extremely crooked head line can mean mental difficulties that range in seriousness from mild depression or anxiety to full-blown mental illness. The severity depends on the depth and location (i.e., starting point and finishing point, as laid out on the hand) of the line. If the head line begins at the bottom of the Saturn finger, depression will likely follow the person through life. However, keep in mind that depression can be treated by a qualified physician — just because the lines say depression is possible doesn't mean the person has to suffer from it. Remember, you hold the keys to your own future!
