Omega-3 is not the only fatty acid needed by the body. Omega-6 fatty acid can be found in many plant-based oils such as evening primrose oil, borage oil, and black currant seed oil. These oils can help to reduce inflammation and are important for the body. Remember, the most important thing to consider is the ratio of omega-6 to omega-3. It is ideal to keep the ratios of these two fatty acids around three or four to one. Omega-9 is not an essential fatty acid as it is produced in the body. If there is a shortage of omega-3 or omega-6, your body will try to convert omega-9 to the other fatty acids. This is not an effective way to obtain these essential fatty acids and it will be detrimental to your health in the long term.
