Sweet Pea Purée
Yields 16 tablespoons
INGREDIENTS:
1 cup sweet peas
1–2 tablespoons water
Sweet peas are often a child's first vegetable. If he does not like the first taste, continue to offer this periodically. It can take many tries for a child to accept new foods!
Steam the peas in the water. Save water when done steaming.
Put peas in food processor or blender. Process on and off until desired consistency reached (for ages 4–6 months, consistency should be equal to or only slightly thicker than breast milk or formula). Use a small amount of the cooking liquid to thin the final product if necessary. Work the pulp through a strong strainer to remove any fibrous material.
If you are planning on making a large batch of vegetables to freeze, use water to thin out the purée, if needed. Breast milk and formula do not freeze well in purées.
