Steak and Mushroom Pie

Serve this pie with a tossed salad topped with a sour cream–based salad dressing, like bleu cheese or ranch.

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 4

  • 4 slices bacon, cut into small dice
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 small yellow onion, diced
  • 8 ounces fresh button or cremini mushrooms, cleaned and sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup Madeira wine
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon Mrs. Dash® Original Blend
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • ½ 14-ounce bag baby potatoes and vegetables blend, thawed
  • 1 cup cooked sirloin steak or roast beef, shredded or cubed
  • 1 refrigerated peel-and-unroll-style pie crust
  1. Preheat oven to 375 °F.

  2. Add the bacon, butter, onion, and mushrooms to a large microwave-safe bowl. Cover and microwave on high for 1 minute. Stir to mix the melted butter with the other ingredients. Cover and microwave on high for 3 1-minute segments, stirring between each minute. If the bacon has lost its pink color, continue to step 3; if it hasn't, cover and microwave on high for another minute.

  3. Add the garlic and sprinkle the flour over the mushroom mixture in the bowl, then stir to combine. Slowly stir in the wine or broth. Cover and microwave on high for 1 minute.

  4. Whisk in the parsley and seasoning blend until the mixture is smooth and without lumps. Slowly stir in the remaining broth. Cut the baby potatoes in the vegetable blend into quarters, if desired, then stir the entire bag and the beef into the mixture.

  5. Pour the beef mixture into a 9 ½" deep-dish pie plate. Top the filled pie plate with an pie crust. Cut vents into the crust. Place the pie plate on a jellyroll pan (a safety measure to catch any drippings should the pan boil over).

  6. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let set for 10 minutes, and then cut and serve.

Recipe Adjustments

Adjust the seasoning in this recipe according to the seasonings used in your cooked beef. For example, if you're using leftover Beef Bourguignon, use Burgundy instead of Madeira and simply add additional freshly ground black pepper to taste instead of the Mrs. Dash Original Blend.
