Your Other Providers
You can also get referrals from your regular doctor, your clergyperson, or even your local hospital (depending on its the size and location, many hospitals, mental hospitals, and other health facilities in larger cities have OCD centers). You can also check your local phone book. It should provide listings under “mental health services.”
Another great resource is your local university or teaching hospital. Most of the larger schools will have a department of psychology, psychiatry, or related disciplines. Some of these will have clinics or offer sliding scale payment options. (That is, the patient pays according to income level.)
If you don't have an EAP, school counseling service, health insurance, or a plan that covers mental health, another possible resource is the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. You can find a mental health services locator on their website. Please note, however, that these listings pertain to mental health in general and not to OCD in particular, so not all of the information will apply (or necessarily be up-to-date).
