UNDOUBTEDLY, YOU KNOW THIS by now: Having a family member or friend who has OCD can be an exercise in extreme frustration. Activities you enjoyed together only a short time ago may now be constrained, unpleasant, or even impossible. Your friend may act anxious where she used to seem carefree. You might well wonder: What happened? What happened, of course, is that your friend's OCD symptoms began or worsened. She may have taken you into her confidence about her anxieties, and now, you find, they seem to run her life. Worse, they are in many ways taking over yours!
