Stress Relief
Stress relief begins and ends with your mind. You need to realize that you do not and cannot have control over every situation. Sometimes the administration will make choices that entirely change your work life. Unfortunately, you will not have any say in the matter.
Students will misbehave in class, and even though you are in charge, you cannot always control these situations before they arise. The only thing that you can have complete control over is your own feelings and perceptions.
When stressful situations arise, choose to act and not react. Instead of sitting back and wallowing in misery, jump in and try to find ways to solve any problems or issues that arise. Even if you do not get your way in the end, just the act of getting involved will help you feel better.
Take some time to do something for yourself each day. Take a nice stroll in the evening or read a good book. Even a little bit of quiet time to unwind can be a huge help toward reducing your stress.
Stress-Relieving Habits
Getting enough sleep, exercising, and practicing good eating habits are extremely important in fighting stress. Relaxation is the key to lower stress levels. When you feel that you're in a stressful situation, remember to breathe deeply. As you breathe in, scrunch up your entire body and then let it out at once, and you will begin to relax.
Remember not to sweat the small stuff. While this may be an old cliché, it is still valid. When a stressful situation arises, consider if you will even remember it tomorrow or next week. The fact is that most situations are momentary. Getting stressed about them leads to nothing but illness.
