Homeopathic Arthritic Remedies
Classical homeopathy suggests using one remedy and waiting for the outcome of that remedy before trying another dose or changing the remedy. This works at the most vital level to cure the problem rather than cover up the symptoms.
Providing warmth and massage to joints will help relieve the pain of arthritis. In cold weather, give your dog a warm area or bed to sleep on. There are many heated dog beds on the market that are safe to use. Applying heat and a massage won't cure the problem, but it will provide more flexibility in the joints.
Silicea 30C is used for dogs that have inherited joint and bone disease problems. Stiffness, pain, and distortion of the joints become more severe as a dog ages. It's usually given once.
For pain and inflammation of the bones of the legs, use belladonna 30C and eupatorium perfoliatum 39C. Belladonna is effective when the dog has a fever and sudden painful symptoms. If belladonna doesn't resolve the problem, try eupatorium perfoliatum.
Several other remedies can be used to treat acute arthritic attacks. These include Phytolacca Decandra (Phyt.), Rhododendron (Rhod.), and Agaricus (Agar.). Consult with your veterinarian to determine the best one.
Rhus toxicodendron (Rhus tox.)
Rhus tox is effective for typical arthritic symptoms, especially if a dog is restless and uncomfortable, or has trembling in his limbs, especially after excessive exertion.
Bryonia (Bry.)
This is effective if a dog is sensitive to touch and has pain on her right side, when even the slightest touch or sudden movement makes her uncomfortable. Look for irritability and joints that are tense, red or pale, and swollen.
Ledum (Led.)
Ledum is effective for dogs that have multiple joints affected, Lyme disease symptoms, or tearing or shooting pains.
Ruta Graveolens (Ruta.)
This is especially effective for dogs with lower extremity pain. If the dog's legs suddenly give out or there are signs of weakness, unsteadiness, or trembling, talk to your veterinarian about ruta graveolens.
