This section focuses solely on melody, and as such, does not contain chords or polyphony, etc. First, you will learn how to build melodies through simple intervallic leaps. Next, you will learn how to imply chords through arpeggios or broken chords. After this, you will experiment with accidentals and chromatic movement. Lastly, you will discover how to develop motives and phrases. Plus, you will explore techniques for varying melodies and learn what imitative counterpoint means. These melodic concepts can be applied when writing for all pitched instruments. For basic information on pitch see section 5.
