The Symptoms of Stress
To get a good handle on it, you'll have to identify your own signs of stress. Stress affects the mind, body, and behavior in different ways, so the symptoms vary between people. Some folks will get a backache, others will feel sick to their stomach, and still others will exhibit emotional problems. Stress can even change the way you behave and think. Here are a few of the many symptoms of stress:
Inability to concentrate
Memory problems
Moodiness
Short temper
Restlessness
Feeling overwhelmed
Muscle tension or stiffness
Weight loss or weight gain
Frequent colds
Sleeping too much or too little
Nervous habits
You may have noticed that some of these symptoms overlap MS symptoms, such as muscle tension or stiffness, inability to concentrate, and memory problems. That makes it all the more important that you identify your stressors so you can distinguish them from MS symptoms that need your attention. These days, people have a tendency to blame everything on stress. Conversely, some people with MS may blame all of their physical symptoms on MS, even when other things, such as stress or a virus, may be responsible. It's a good thing to see your doctor if you're exhibiting any of the symptoms listed above. She can help figure out what may be causing them.
