Fitness Fashion
While you might like some new, attractive workout clothes to help inspire and motivate you, your appearance while working out is not very important. Purchasing workout clothes to fit your new mom body is a good idea, but you should choose them based on comfort, not fashion. Also, don't buy too many items at once, as your body size and shape are sure to change as you move toward your fitness goals.
Clothing
The clothing you wear while working out will influence your success. Though the easiest and most affordable option is to throw on an old T-shirt and a pair of shorts, well-designed athletic wear can make a big difference. Certain materials keep you comfortable by wicking moisture away from your body. Also, some fabrics allow your skin to breathe while you work out. Not only will you feel better wearing quality clothing, but these items can actually allow you to work out more safely and effectively.
Be sure that you choose a good, supportive sports bra to work out in. You need to wear a well-fitting bra that prevents bouncing. If you aren't well supported during workouts, your chest can become sore and achy. Sports bras aren't cheap, but they're worth the expense.
In addition to choosing clothes made of the right materials, you need to make sure they fit well. Clothes that are too tight can restrict your breathing and trap body heat. Clothes that are too big and baggy could cause you to trip and fall, and the extra fabric might make you overheat. Ask a knowledgeable employee at a sports store for suggestions on what items to buy in what sizes.
Shoes
The shoes you wear should correspond with the type of exercise you do. For example, if you do running workouts, you want to ensure that you wear proper running shoes. You need plenty of cushion and support to handle the stress on your feet, ankles, and knees. There are also specific shoes made for walking, tennis, hiking, and aerobics. If you do a variety of sports, consider investing in a pair of cross trainers.
You don't have to spend a fortune on athletic shoes. There are very expensive styles out there, but you can certainly find a good pair for under $50. Just keep an eye out for sales and promotional deals in local sports stores. Staff at the stores may also be able to tell you if a sale will be coming up in the near future.
