Loving Your Mom Body

When all the weight is gone, all the stretch marks have faded, and all the flab has re-formed into firm skin, your new mom body will be evident. Short of drastic measures like plastic surgery, this is the new you. This can be a scary prospect. Do what you can to make loving your mom body an easier transition.

The clothing you wear can have a lot to do with how you feel about your new body. Do your clothes accentuate your new body? Are they appropriate for how you feel in your life? Are you wearing the same clothes you've worn for years? Consider getting a couple of new outfits that make you look and feel confident and attractive. If you've fallen into a cycle of alternating different-colored stretch pants, try wearing some nice skirts or dresses for a change. This can make you feel more feminine and refreshed.

Consider a new mom makeover for yourself. Get a new hairstyle and a new bottle of perfume. Even if you're not a big fan of makeup, just a bit of lip gloss and some eye shadow can make you feel glamorous. You don't even have to spend a fortune on this. Many cities have department stores or independent consultants who will provide you with a free makeover just for learning about their products. Do this with a friend for a fun afternoon activity.

In addition to making over your body, make a change in your overall outlook. Look at your body and your baby with fresh eyes and put any pain from pregnancy and labor behind you. Embrace the new you and move forward with your life. Learning from first pregnancies can help you make changes in future pregnancies. So don't worry; chances are, it will be easier the next time around.
