Flowers and Décor

Of course, some would like to think that décor is an afterthought, but the décor and flowers are really what makes the ceremony and reception space personalized. There is so much more to decorating a wedding reception than the centerpieces on the tables.

Floral Designs

When meeting with a florist, you may only be in need of a few key items that most brides need (like the bridal bouquet, altar arrangements, and centerpieces). However, if you are having a much more complicated event due to your culture and blending of two families, you will want to make sure they can take you as a client. If you want lighting, draping, garlands, lanterns, and the works, be sure you e-mail or call them about these items before making an appointment. Your best route is to find a floral designer that has access to all of these items.

Some questions you should ask when meeting with a floral designer are:

  • Where do you buy your flowers? (Are they eco-friendly?)

  • How much time do you need for setup?

  • Do you set up and break down everything?

  • What are your delivery fees?

  • How many personnel will be on-site for setup?

  • When can we give you the final guest count for centerpiece purposes?

  • Do you offer rental vases and props?

  • Other Décor Items

Some floral designers can only provide flowers, as they do not have the storage available to them for larger rental items. If you are having an Indian wedding, you might want a mandap, or if you are Jewish, you will want a chuppah. Not all florists can provide these items. Does it make sense to have two different florists provide different floral designs the day of your daughter's wedding? The answer to this is maybe, but it will make your planning efforts more difficult. If you need lighting, tenting, draping and props in addition to flowers, see if your florist can recommend who they like working with. It will not only make your job easier, but theirs easier as well.
