Kit 'n Cat Bars Recipe
The candy that these cookies are based upon is one of the most popular name-brands in the world. You can use any kind of plain cracker you'd like in this easy recipe.

YIELDS ► 36 bars
- 2 sleeves rectangular salted crackers, divided
- 1¼ cups brown sugar
- ½ cup butter
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup peanut butter, divided
- 1 (12-ounce) package semisweet chocolate chips
Remove ¼ of the crackers from one sleeve and crush finely. Put a layer of the whole crackers in the bottom of a 9″ × 13″ pan and set aside.
In large saucepan, combine cracker crumbs, brown sugar, butter, and milk and bring to a boil over medium-high heat. Boil, stirring constantly, for 5 minutes.
Remove from heat and stir in ½ cup peanut butter until melted.
Pour over the crackers in pan. Top with a layer of crackers.
In medium microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips with ½ cup peanut butter. Microwave for 2 minutes at 50 percent power; remove from microwave and stir.
Return to microwave for another 30 seconds at 50 percent power. Remove and stir until smooth.
Pour over bars and spread gently to cover. Cool completely and cut into bars.
There are many brands and varieties of peanut butter on the market. You can spend a lot of money for “natural” brands and even the name brands, but, especially in baking, the generic brands are just fine. Try a couple of generic varieties and you'll probably find one that your kids love spread on toast or crackers for snacks.
