Wasabi-Roasted Filet Mignon
Wasabi is like horseradish, but its flavor is much more intense. It's served with sushi and other Japanese meals.
INGREDIENTS
- 1 (3-pound) filet mignon roast
- ¼ teaspoon pepper
- 1 teaspoon powdered wasabi
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
Preheat oven to 400ºF.
If the roast has a thin end and a thick end, fold the thin end under so the roast is about the same thickness. Place on roasting pan.
In small bowl, combine pepper, wasabi, oil, and soy sauce, and mix well. Brush half over roast.
Roast the beef for 30 minutes, then remove and brush with remaining wasabi mixture.
Return to oven for 5–10 minutes longer or until meat thermometer registers at least 145ºF for medium rare.
Remove from oven, cover, and let stand for 15 minutes before slicing to serve.

Filet Mignon
Filet mignon is one of the most expensive cuts of steak, but it is almost 100-percent edible with no waste. The cut is very tender, but not the most flavorful, so it is often cooked with very intense ingredients, like wasabi and jalapeño peppers. Slice it into very thin slices against the grain to serve.
