How to Write the Story of Your Life
There are questions to ask and to explore, and you can invite your feelings, thoughts, joys, and fears to be your guides. Or you can ask these questions of the people in your life with whom you are most comfortable, including friends, partners, family, or colleagues.
The following list of questions is meant to be a beginning of your story, focusing on key topics and areas of your life such as personal, historical, favorite work, values, your concept of God and the world, your likes and dislikes, and wishes and dreams. How you use these questions will reveal the story of your life.
What makes your heart happy?
What is your family history and roots?
What are your three favorite memories?
What are your spiritual beliefs?
What do you like the most (such as foods, things to do, hobbies, favorite possessions)?
What are your least favorite things, or pet peeves?
What are the wishes and dreams you hold for you and others that you love?
What would you like the special people in your life to remember about you?
What words of wisdom would you like to leave to some of the special people in your life? For example, if you were to leave notes to your spouse, partner, children, sister, brother, friend, or someone who has had a powerful impact on your life, what would they say?
What are the three most important values you feel have guided most of your decisions and are integrated in your everyday life?
Who is the one person who has influenced your life in a positive way?
What is the most important wisdom that you received during or after your breast cancer treatment?
What message do you have for others living with breast cancer? Will you explain it?
What one word comes to mind when you reflect on your life?
What are the three most treasured accomplishments in your life?
What would you say to the world if you could leave one important message?
What message would you leave to your loved ones that would help them live the life they deserve?
The rest is up to you — what questions you ask, what you decide you would like to share and leave for others to know about you, and what the special people in your life mean to you.
