The Ups

What could possibly be an up during this time of overwhelming challenges? After all, you have breast cancer. Finding the ups in down time means taking a telescopic view. But once you realize that, you will find there are benefits to going through breast cancer treatment.

In Her Own Words

Choose hope. Treat hope as an art to develop and to practice. Nurture it and then use it as a gift to another woman facing a difficult part of the breast cancer journey. Your true healing is connected to gifting this art.

— Mary Pat, age 61, 7-year survivor

It may be a kindness extended to you by a friend or total stranger at a time you need it most. It may be the first time in your life that you realize how much people really care about you. The experience certainly puts another dimension into your life and perspective, one where you may have even learned to live more joyfully. The ups are whatever you define them to be. Perhaps a newfound wisdom, an insight, and a deeper understanding of the importance of your relationships and choices you make. An upside of your breast cancer experience could also be the peace that you have never been able to successfully achieve with a past relationship or circumstance in your life. You finally have simplified your life, the sun is shining, and you are feeling strong enough to set your own sails.
