The Downs

You are sailing through your breast cancer treatments and all of a sudden there is a dark and stormy spell. Nothing seems to be going right. Your doctor is recommending another test to see how your chemotherapy treatments are working. You wonder, what does this all mean? You may just be having a bad wig day and you feel like everyone is staring at you and wondering why you look so different. People who may not know that you are undergoing breast cancer treatment may secretly be saying, “What did she do to her hair?”

Many of the downs happen unintentionally, such as the feeling of disappointment you may have in people who have not been sensitive to your needs and are uncomfortable being with you because of your cancer. They may have some faulty thinking about cancer and its treatment and because of this, are ill-equipped to support you. It is important to remember that you may not have the energy or the strength to educate others and you must carefully choose where to invest your energy resources.
