Section 18: Getting Attention and Giving Commands
Latrī nem capite, canē s, nēeffugiat! Catch the robber, dogs! Don't let him get away! (or … so that he doesn't get away!)
Canibus imperā vī ipse ut latrī nem capiant nē effugiat. I myself ordered the dogs to catch the robber so he wouldn't get away.
Latrī nem capiant canē s. Ita nīn effugiat. Let the dogs catch the robber. That way he won't get away.
Metuī nē latrī effugiat. I'm afraid the robber will get away.
Vereor ut canēs latrī nem capiant. I fear that the dogs won't catch the robber.
Utinam canēs latrī nem capiant! I hope the dogs catch the robber!
Nisi canēs latrī nem cē pis-sent, effū gisset. If the dogs hadn't caught the robber, he would have gotten away.
Nesciī utrum canēs latrī nem capiant an effugiat. I don't know whether the dogs will catch the robber or he'll get away.
Canibus veteribus, nesciīquīn effugiat latrī . Since the dogs are old, I don't know why the robber shouldn't get away.
Cum canēs latrī nem cē pis-sent, ille tamen effū git. Even though the dogs had caught the robber, he got away anyway.
