Ordinal Numbers

Ordinal numbers are used to put things into an order — for example, the third chapter or the first person. The ordinal number is commonly expressed with a Roman numeral when following the name of a pope (Benedict XVI or Benedetto Sedicesimo) or monarch (Vittorio Emanuele III or Vittorio Emanuele Terzo).
