Heal Illness and Disease
The statement “thoughts are things” finds repetition in New Age circles and at Law of Attraction seminars. A passing thought about diabetes might not cause the condition to manifest, but if you constantly worry and fear that you're going to develop it, you just might. Then what? How do you reverse the process, get rid of the illness?
If you want perfect health, affirm it by proclaiming that you want it and that you like the way your body feels when it is healthy. The beings known as Abraham in the Jerry and Esther Hicks book The Law of Attraction: The Basics of the Teachings of Abraham have stated that thinking such thoughts makes you feel good and such feeling places you in tune with the law to attract perfect health.
In his 1990 book Quantum Healing: Exploring the Frontiers of Mind/ Body Medicine, Dr. Deepak Chopra explained that quantum healing — the body's ability to cure itself of a disease — involves healing the mind to manifest changes in the body. Human bodies, he pointed out, are fields of information, intelligence, and energy. The mind need only focus on an area of the body that needs healing and the body sends healing energy to that place.
Where Western medicine most often treats symptoms with medications or surgery, holistic and Ayurvedic medical practices emphasize the mind/body connection and work to find the root cause of the disease. If, as Dr. Chopra has asserted, each of the 50 trillion cells of the human body knows how to heal itself, then your body should be able to effect a cure and restore its health.
When you let go of destructive patterns, release victimology thinking, take responsibility for your choices in life and the consequences, and forgive, you will be taking a giant step toward healing whatever ails you. Dis-ease is just that — the lack of ease about your life, your body, your choices, or anything that troubles your mind and heart and brings discord to your comfort level. Have patience with your body.
It isn't necessary to go over and over again how, when, or why the body developed the illness, but rather to affirm that you are releasing it. Let go of old patterns of thinking and living. Embrace limitless potential in your health and your life through deliberate focus on the Law of Attraction and allow for your deepest desires for perfect health and well-being to manifest. Tell your mind that it is strong; tell your body, too. Banish doubt. Purify your body and strengthen your mind.
Get wisdom, get understanding: forget it not; neither decline from the words of my mouth. Forsake her not, and she shall preserve thee: love her, and she shall keep thee. Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. — Proverbs 4: 5–7
The following breathing technique has been practiced by yogis for centuries. Breathing techniques were known by the ancients and have been used in many cultures either alone or with herbs or other elements to restore balance in the body for health. If you feel ill, try the following breathing exercise.
Sitting in a comfortable position with straight posture, place your right thumb against your right nostril. Breathe in through the left nostril slowly until your lungs are full.
Release the thumb and press the first finger of the same hand against the left nostril and breathe out.
Inhale through the right nostril, then close it off and breathe out through the left.
Repeat the cycle three to five times. (Yogis advocated doing this exercise before sunrise, at noon, at sunset, and at midnight to achieve purity of the nervous system for spiritual practice.)
When you feel calm and rebalanced, relax and resume normal breathing. Visualize your body's soldiers (white blood cells) proliferating and gathering in a specific area that is in need of healing, or circulating throughout the body if you are trying to heal something like the flu. Feel the breaking up of tension in the afflicted area and warmth filling it. Visualize the healing.
