Use touchstones such as fetishes, symbols or icons, and words with special meaning to prepare you for your undertaking. The Taoist sage Lao Tzu asserted that “when you realize that there is nothing lacking, the whole world belongs to you.” He also pointed out that “to the mind that is still, the entire universe surrenders.”

In the stillness of peace, declare your intention to seek something from the universe or to give your own gifts to the world. Maybe you want to create a CD of spiritual music, a piece of visionary art, a self-help book, a Law of Attraction program that you can teach all over the country for income, an orphanage for children whose parents have succumbed to HIV/AIDS, a water treatment plant for a Third-World community, a documentary about autism. Whatever your dream is, create a collage or painting that depicts it.

Maybe your desire has not yet come into clear focus. Be patient and continue thinking about it. Lao Tzu also said that “at the center of your being, you have the answer; you know who you are and what you want.” Let your subconscious guide you to powerful images. Clip them from magazines to use on a collage. As you listen to the strains of your favorite music, remember that in the ancient world, music was integrated into society in almost every conceivable way, from stick-banging in fields to frighten away birds (later accompanied by song) to the prayers offering religious sacrifices to the celebration of battle victories. Let music lead you to the art that represents the new life or good world you are creating.
