Labs and Children

Labs love children. There's no doubt that the two were made for each other. The important thing to realize, however, is that Labs are highly active dogs, especially as puppies. It's not unusual for them to inadvertently knock children down in play.

Before you get a Lab, consider whether your child is old enough to interact with a rambunctious dog. Labs are great as far as being patient with a toddler's roaming hands, but they're a bit on the large side for a child of this age to play comfortably with them. You may be better off waiting until your child is at least six years old and capable of standing up to this breed's sometimes rough — but never mean — play.
