Movement

Krav Maga students need to learn how to move quickly and safely in a Fighting Stance. The basic principle is whatever direction you are moving in, that foot moves first while the other foot pushes off, finishing in a solid fighting stance. For example, begin in a Fighting Stance:

To advance (move forward) you would move the left foot while pushing off with the right.

To retreat (move back) you would move the right foot and push with the left.

To move right, move the right foot and push off with the left.

To move left, move the left foot and push off with the right.

After each movement you should land in a stable Fighting Stance. This movement is like a shuffling motion that is close to the ground. Beginners will usually hop in order to move. This is too slow and makes it hard to send a punch at the same time. Keep the feet low to the ground. One you understand basic movement, you can begin to move at different angles in diagonal lines in any direction. This method of movement allows you to keep your groin from being exposed and allows you to deliver punches while moving.
