A Better Lifestyle Means a Better Life

How about lifestyle? When you make training a part of your life, you will start to notice that the quality of your life begins to improve. You will begin to have better sleeping habits. You will find that you are falling asleep faster and that you have an easier time staying asleep throughout the night.

You will start to make better food choices without having to think about or struggle over them. You will begin to exhibit a more positive attitude toward every facet of your life, such as issues at work, and this will allow you to be able to better cope with stress, anxiety, and physical tension. All of these things make for a better quality lifestyle.

The Training High (Runner's High)

There is a phenomenon that can be very addictive among endurance athletes. It is described as a feeling of liberation, perfect rhythm and exhilaration, mental alertness and awareness, and effortless movement. This is commonly known as runner's high. In order to reach this sensation it usually requires rhythmic, long-lasting, and uninterrupted activity.

QUESTION

How do you know if you're experiencing a runner's high?

While many runners have reported experiencing a state of euphoria while running, the actual state they describe varies from one person to the next. When asked to describe this high, athletes commonly call it a state of pleasure experienced after going a certain distance. However, this high isn't solely experienced by runners. Boxers, football players, wrestlers, and even Olympic gymnasts have all reported experiences of euphoria while performing at levels of maximum physical potential.

Although Krav Maga workouts are usually interrupted by changes, a state of euphoria has been experienced by some when music, punching, and kicking are all combined in a rhythmic format. This format is then continued in moderate intensities for long durations. This is similar to a cardio-kickboxing type of class.

Exercise Addicts?

This experience of euphoria and heightened sense of well-being can be addictive. As crazy as it may sound, exercise addiction is a real possibility. While this is probably the least harmful addiction you could ever hope to have, it is often characterized by an experience of withdrawal symptoms within a twenty-three to thirty-six hour period of no physical exercise.

These withdrawal symptoms are usually mild and include irritability, feelings of guilt, twitching of the muscles, feeling bloated, anxiety, and onsets of nervous behaviors (such as compulsive nail-biting and ticking). These behaviors normally only occur if an “addict” is prevented from exercising for any reason for more than a day.
