Pennsylvania
The land that is now Pennsylvania came under British rule beginning in 1664. The first governor was a Quaker, William Penn, in 1681.
Philadelphia was the nation's capital until 1800.
This state's northwest corner is actually on Lake Erie, and the peninsula there has a big park — 3,200 acres. Pennsylvania also has a Little League Baseball Museum and two large cities, Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
The Little League Museum is in Williamsport. You can video your swing and then watch it, and look at the uniforms of some big-league players who played Little League first.
The Declaration of Independence was written during Continental Congress, held in Philadelphia in 1776. You can also visit the Liberty Bell, from the days of Colonial America.
Pennsylvania is the fifth most populated state, with almost 12 million people. Harrisburg is the capital, but Philadelphia is by far the largest city with about 1.4 million people.
