Swamps. Mint juleps. Moss-covered plantation houses. These are the images that come to mind when people think of the Deep South. And yet there is so much more to the Deep South than that! Florida has long beaches, a colorful Caribbean subculture, and Disney World in Orlando. South Carolina has gorgeous beaches as well, with Myrtle Beach being one of its most famous.
And the food! If you like it deep-fried, you'll like the Deep South! They even deep-fry vegetables in the Deep South (like fried okra). And then there's the barbecue, and the cornbread!
The Deep South is a place of many contrasts. It has mountains and lowlands, swamps and prairies, forests and bayous. It is also a land of large, powerful rivers such as the Mississippi, Alabama, Tennessee, and Tombigbee.
