The pharaohs of ancient Egypt were buried in a special tomb called a pyramid. These huge buildings were built from blocks of stone that could weigh up to two tons each! The pharaoh was buried deep inside the pyramid in a special chamber full of gold, jewels, and expensive offerings. It is not surprising that robbers wanted to break in to steal the treasure! For this reason, pyramids had many fake burial chambers and passages that were dead ends. These were supposed to confuse the robbers and keep the treasure — and the pharaoh — hidden.
