Welcome to The Everything® Kids’ More Word Searches Puzzle and Activity Book!

Perhaps you are familiar with word search puzzles from our earlier book, but this may also be your first experience with word searches. In either case, we will give you easy directions on how to solve this type of puzzle and what kind of fun you can look forward to in this book!

A word search puzzle is like a game of hide and seek, except that you are looking for words rather than people. A basic word search has a list of words and a letter grid. Your job is to find all the listed words that are hidden in the letter grid among many random letters. Sounds easy, right? Not always.

The words can be hiding in all different directions, and can overlap, too. This sample puzzle will give you an idea of how the words might be hidden.

Here is a List of words hidden in the sample grid:

HORIZONTAL VERTICAL DIAGONAL BACKWARD FORWARD

We won't remind you on every page—you'll hove to remember to look for words to be hidden all over the place!

Once you have located a word in a grid, you'll want to mark it in some way. Some people use a pencil or pen to draw a big loop around the whole word. Personally, we like to use highlighting markers and draw a line of bright pink, yellow, orange, or blue right through the word. This makes the answers pop off the page! We also like to put a check mark by each word in the list after we have found it.

You might be wondering if there is a best way to attack a word search. We've found that some people move systematically through the puzzle, searching across or up and down each line. Other people look for the uncommon letters first—like “J” or “Q”—that might not appear too often in the grid. You can try both of these methods, or look for one that suits you better.

Word search puzzles are not difficult, but we've found they are much more satisfying if they have an added element of fun. For instance, you might have to look for words that are spelled in a circle or ones that are hidden on a diagonal. Another possibility is that after you have found all the words, we may ask you to read the leftover letters to discover a joke that we've hidden in the grid! Sometimes we have you break a code or solve clues to get your word list. Occasionally, we don't give you a list at all. When we have added any of these twists, we always let you know in the directions for the puzzle.

There are over 100 puzzles in this book. Some are straightforward, others a bit more complicated. We hope they will entertain and intrigue you for many hours.

Happy Searching!
