Decoding Coins
There are several things that are required by law to be on all U.S. coins:
“LIBERTY”
An image of Liberty, usually a female form
“In God We Trust”
The date
The denomination
“United States of America”
“E Pluribus Unum” (Latin for “out of many, one,” meaning many states come together to make our one country)
An eagle on coins larger than a dime
Exceptions are made, though, such as with the state quarter designs.
