Quick Hot Oatmeal

Most oatmeal recipes call for using water. However, you can always substitute milk for a power breakfast with more protein and more calcium. If you are in a rush in the morning, feel free to use the microwave!

INGREDIENTS | SERVES 1

1/2 cup cooked oats, dry

1 cup low-fat milk

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon sugar (optional)

  • 1. Pour the oats into a microwave-safe bowl.

  • 2. Add milk and vanilla extract.

  • 3. Microwave for 1 minute 30 seconds, or until thick and creamy.

  • 4. Sweeten with sugar if desired.

Not a “Real” Breakfast Food Eater?

Try any sandwich in the morning, with a glass of low-fat milk and a piece of fruit— 2 slices whole grain bread, and 2 to 3 slices turkey, roast beef, or ham, and 1 teaspoon of light mayonnaise or mustard if desired. That works just fine as breakfast.
