What a Star!

The sun's rays can be used to fill up a battery so it heats buildings, creates electricity, and moves cars. Even if the sun goes behind a cloud, your car will keep you moving because it stores up energy. I guess we're not the only ones interested in solar power.

Sun Fun

When the sun (solar energy) hits some colors, it absorbs more energy than others; this means it gets warmer with some colors than others. Here's a fun activity to see if you can predict which color gets warmer.

  • Put three thermometers in the sun.

  • Cover the bulb of the first thermometer with black paper, the second with white paper, and leave the third uncovered.

  • Predict which one will get the hottest.

  • Wait five minutes.

  • Look at the results. Did you predict correctly?

Every minute, enough energy from the sun arrives at the earth to meet our demands for a whole year; we just need to learn how to harness it.
