Athletic Endeavors
A social life, sports, and girls appeared to be the only things on Jack's mind. His grades were mostly mediocre, ranging from B's to C's. Social standing and sports went hand in hand. In spite of his health issues and slight frame, Jack was intent on excelling in sports. He joined the swim team and the sailing team and played on the junior football squad.
Even though his health affected his ability in football and swimming, Jack became highly competitive. According to the football coach, he put forth intense effort. He trained hard to get into shape, but his dream of playing football came to an end when he was injured during a scrimmage. In swimming, however, he could be proud. During his freshman year, he and his team enjoyed an undefeated status. His sailing ability was also notable. Under his direction, the team won the intercollegiate championship.
HE SAID…
“[W]hile [the French] all like Roosevelt, his type of government would not succeed in a country like France which seems to lack the ability of seeing a problem as a whole…. The general impression also seems to be that there will not be a war in the near future and that France is much too well prepared for Germany.”
