RESIGNATION LETTER

No matter how much you hate the job you are leaving, don't slam any doors behind you. Respect the old adage “Don't burn any bridges.” You really don't know what the future holds for you and who you will meet when you get there. None of us does. You may end up working with your former boss again at some point (okay, stop cringing). A well-written resignation letter to your employer stating when you are leaving is imperative. In this letter you may or may not want to explain why you are leaving. Only do so if you can be polite and not lay blame on anyone.

Dear Bob,

I will be resigning from my position as accounts supervisor effective September 15th. I am leaving to join a large agency that will afford me the opportunity to further advance my career in advertising.

It has been a pleasure working for you. Thank you for your continued confidence in me over the last three years. I will be happy to train the person who will be replacing me if you hire someone while I am still here. If not, I can answer any questions he or she has by e-mail or telephone.

Sincerely,

(Signature)
