In Jewish thought, marriage — and the love that should be part of it — is not only realistic and practical but also, at the same time, unifying and profound. A marriage relationship, since both partners become a greater whole through it, is perhaps the most important and powerful one in life. Jewish mysticism even teaches that in order to understand our relationship to God, we must first know a relationship of love with another human that is so encompassing we become one on an emotional, physical, and spiritual level.
