It's hard to imagine that the twentieth century may be seen as the “Christian” century, the first or best representative of the church giving of itself for the world. The church did not win over the world through its appealing words and strategies of evangelism so that the world gave up its strife and self-serving and -aggrandizing attitudes. The century of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, Pol Pot, Slobodan Milosevic, and Saddam Hussein wasn't quite the breakthrough for the Kingdom Come many hoped for.
